IP (Ingress Protection) Ratings Explained An IP Rating or IP Code is an international numerical standard used to classify the degree of protection The IP rating is listed as ‘IP’ followed by two digits. The first digit indicates a protection level against solid objects such as dust, and the second digit indicates the degree of protection against the ingress of water. The lower the number the lower the protection and the higher the number the harsher environment the item can withstand.
